MU16 x British Library: A Dialogue Across Time and Craftsmanship

MU16 x British Library: A Dialogue Across Time and Craftsmanship

At MU16, we believe that design is not just about creating objects; it is about exploring the infinite answers to beauty. Recently, we embarked on a journey to the heart of cultural history, collaborating with the British Library to create a collection that merges industrial artistry with functional design.

An Encounter with the Arts and Crafts Movement

This collaboration is more than a partnership; it is a tribute to the "Great Originality" of the Arts and Crafts movement. Our inspiration stems from the vast archives of the British Library—specifically, the work of William Morris, the 19th-century visionary, artist, and poet.

Known for his intricate patterns of intertwined flora, Morris believed that art should be for everyone and that craftsmanship should have "soul." We drew from his 1891 fantasy novel, The Story of the Glittering Plain, taking elements from its exquisitely designed cover to infuse our crystalware with warmth and historical depth.

Beyond the Glass: The Medium of Emotion

To MU16, glass is a medium between the creator and the self. By weaving the delicate, warm patterns of the British Library’s collection into our hand-blown crystal, we’ve created pieces that are not just "usable," but "lovable."

In those 16 hours of your waking life, we hope this collection offers a moment of "magnified appreciation." Whether it’s a quiet morning hydration or an evening reflection, you are not just holding a glass—you are holding a story that has traveled through centuries.
